Just for funsies have a wee swatch and guess the old games (this is pretty much for you Drew). Its pretty cool, basically old games cut down to 15 pixels effectively.
Plus Id love it as a big wall instillation with 15 of those old curved convex style CRT monitors. Although it would have to be recessed like 100 feet into the wall for it to be flush. Stupid old technology.

Admittedly, while your CRT idea has retro value, I think you’ve established it’s not practical.
However! These things look pretty reasonable. And here they’ve even hooked one up to a web cam.
They’ve got videos somewhere of doing something with bigger cells/fewer pixels, too, with a sheet of frosted plastic over the top, to blur the colour. So you get a smooth-but-low-res effect. It looks awesome, and I want to make one.
Now I know what I would do with it.
